SEBUTAPE® Adhesive Patches detect sebum (oil)
production without the use of any solvents, powders, or chemicals.
The simplicity of the adhesive patch method is a result of the
unique combination of an adhesive and micro-porous film. The film
acts as a passive collector of sebum. The gradual displacement
of air in the pores of the micro-porous film changes its appearance.
The sebum filled pores in the film are no longer capable of scattering
light, so they appear transparent.
The pores are designed so that the lateral spread of sebum in
the film is minimized. This results in sharp boundaries indicating
the location of the active oil glands. The size of the transparent
area is a measure of the amount of sebum collected. Patches are
placed on a dark background storage card for evaluation by eye
or computer image technologies.
APPLICATIONS
Research
Designed as a research tool for assessing sebum output
and distribution of active sebaceous glands. The "feedback" from
the skin about the natural sebum output is not affected by sweating
or global subjective impressions.
Safety
Skin contacted with a medical grade, acrylic adhesive polymer
film.
PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS
This product consists of six individual 1-1/8" x 3/4" patches
on a 1-3/4" x 4" silicone coated, bleached carrier sheet.
Reference patterns included with all orders.
